I have actually thought about this as I have gotten older. When diagnosed with an Autoimmune disease, you do loose your sense of self in the beginning. I believe it is from denial and grief for your old life. I have unfortunately experienced both sides of the spectrum, and believe me when I say this, “you can either give in to your illness or get up and adjust your way of living”.
The legacy aspect of this, is I cannot allow my kids to see me give up. If your child was sick, as a parent you would do anything to help your child get better. Why is it so different as the adult? Doesn’t your kids need a role model? This is an opportunity to show them when life gets tough, we make adjustments and keep on going. It’s so easy to give up now days. However, what kind of legacy are you going to leave behind? The one who allowed the sickness to take over, or a badass warrior who is going to fight this battle.
