Living with Chiari Malformation pain

Share

It took me years, for me to finally realize that the pain I was feeling daily was associated with Chiari Malformation. I am one who sleeps on my back and on my left side. For years, I woke up every day with a migraine-like pain in my head, with tension that went from my neck to my shoulders. The longer I suffered through the pain, my body tension escalated.

My tolerance to pain, is high. I can go normally to two or three days until I break down and go to the emergency room. Even the emergency doctors are clueless about Chiari. For years, I would say it was a migraine, so they treated a migraine. (I should have said, I’m feeling inflammation throughout my body that feels like a bad fibromyalgia flare) As one who suffers from both, pain is pain but I can at least compare it to something that doctors are familiar with.

I haven’t been to the emergency room in several years! Thank you, Jesus! Since I stopped drinking and eating dairy and red meat, I have illuminated the root cause of my pain. My body is allergic to dairy, and red meat is too acidic. Whenever I ate dairy or red meat, I would feel inflammation throughout my back. My stomach would feel bloated, and I would feel uncomfortable.

I was able to relieve some of my pain, by avoiding them in my daily routine. However, I still have my daily headaches, but the injection Amovig 140mg has really helped ease my pain. The stiffness that comes with an autoimmune disease, is relieved by a 30 minutes HIIT workout, or a 2 mile quick pace walk. Movement helps the stiffness, & will actually improve your mood!
